How to Restrict a Workspaces to Specific Groups

A common use case is to remove workspace access to all users except those in authorized groups.

By default, all workspaces are available to all users.

This article describes how to disable the default setting that presents new workspaces to all users, remove existing workspace access from the “All Users” group, and assign workspace access based on group membership.

 Instructions

Disable Automatic Adding Workspaces to the All Users group:

  1. In the Kasm UI go to the Global Settings screen.

  2. Scroll down to the “Add Workspaces to Default Group“ field.

  3. Uncheck the checkbox to disable automatic workspace access.

  4. Click the “Save” button at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

Remove listed Workspaces from the All Users group:

  1. In the Kasm UI go to the Groups screen.

  2. Edit the “All Users“ (or “All Site Users”) group.

  3. Select the “Workspaces” shadow tab.

  4. Remove all workspaces from this listing.

    1. HINT: Use the select all checkbox to bulk remove all workspaces.

  5. Optionally - Add any workspaces that you want all users to have access to.

Assign Workspaces to a specific group:

  1. In the Kasm UI go to the Groups screen.

  2. Edit the specific group that you want to assign workspaces.

  3. Select the “Workspaces” shadow tab.

  4. Add any workspaces that you want all users to have access to.
